RIP Arthur Cant, Legion d’Honneur, CMP (VP Wing)
On the 1st April 2019, Arthur Cant passed away in his nursing home in Hull. Arthur was 98 years old. Just three years before, Arthur was awarded The Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur by the French Government for his actions in 1944 during World War II
4350496 Arthur Henry Cant originally served with the East Yorkshire Regt before transferring to the Corps of Military Police. He was a member of the Vulnerable Points Wing (the Bluecaps) until his Class A Release on 2nd August 1946. On the 7th June 1944, Arthur landed on the Canadian controlled Juno Beach in Normandy. His task was to clear the beaches of prisoners to make way for the advancing troops and equipment. In all, Arthur evacuated 900 enemy prisoners back to the UK, giving them soup during the voyage.
On Tuesday 23rd April, The National Standard of the Royal Military Police Association along with the Hull & East Riding and South Yorkshire Branch Standards, paraded with Members of The Hull & East Riding Branch at Arthur’s funeral. An additional 6 standards where present from other Associations from within the Hull boundary.
Arthur was a kind and generous man, with a keen wit. Arthur will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Three Wise Monkeys Spotted in Beverley
On Saturday 2nd February 2019, three wise. Monkeys, along with a group of other Veterrans from the West Hull Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club, attended the East Riding Theatre in Beverley, to watch a performance of the play Glory Dazed .
Glory Dazed, a play written by Cat Jones stared Sam Edward-Cook (Peakey Blinders) in a moving and darkly comic story of an Afghanistan veteran’s search for redemption, and a fascinating insight into the plight of ex-servicemen in modern Britain.
“This was a brilliantly performed, funny and emotionally charged play, the cast where fantastic and the story is compelling” said Peter Watson, secretary of the Hull & East Riding Branch RMPA.
